Junkyard Empire cover

Photobucket

This is Citypages ad, week 2. The printing for this one was not top notch, so here it is all clean-like.

I've been deep in designing the cover for JE's ep cover. The difficulties has been wrangling opinion from 5 bandmates, plus their management. Don't get me wrong, they've been extremely helpful, and the project's been fun. But making sure all of them get the progress samples, on top of day jobs (and my part-time at J's) has been like olympic gymnastics.

(wrangling the typography)

So far, the process is almost done for the cover itself. As soon as that's done, I can go about designing the inside, cause by that point, the element style and colour are locked in.

Thursday is Mini-Comic-Con at MCAD. It'll be nice to see what the current crop is up to, and catch up with some alumni, professors, etc. I'm thinking of making a batch of Grover's Mom in book form to sell there.

Friday I'm going to be at Macy's in downtown Minneapolis, for Macy's World Food and Artist Marketplace. I'll be giving demonstrations on mini-comics and comics in general. Should be pretty fun! On April 10 & 17, 11:30am - 1pm.

City Pages

Photobucket

If you live in the Twin Cites and surrounding metro, you're probably aware of City Pages, a free weekly arts/news/ad newpaper, found virtually every where. I bought some ad space for a year, and minis, like the one above, are going to be printed on the back-page bulletin board. Keep in mind, this is advertising, and I'm not going to try to claim a published credit out of it. I'm hoping that if you see it, you've seen my website, and by extension, this blog.

Grover's Mom is coming soon- I need to compress the files to reasonable web-safe sizes, and do some advertising on the usual social network sites. But soon!

I've been dying to show off somethings I've been working on for Junkyard Empire. Pretty soon I can, or at least some of the creative process that's been leading toward the project.

This is an exciting project. Go here to whet your appetite.

Ad Space

I've come back from an interview for a part-time job. I'm not going to go into that until I hear back from them, but it'd be pretty awesome if it happens.

In another bit of news, I bought some ad space in a popular Twin Cities weekly to (hopefully) bring more attention to my website and my illustration/comics/design services. Keep your eyes open for that!

I'm now going to get to work on a bit of freelance.

(PS: No, not done yet- "Pangaea Station." Twitter it. NOW I'm done, for now.)

Update

I've been busy in my career pursuit, and for that, I'm sorry that I've been tardy on updates. I'll go into detail shortly.

Printer, Junkyard, and a Recession Job

Many apologies for not updating for 11 (?) days- so much for updating every day, huh? Well, I've been sick, and some good news has popped up.

Photobucket
I'm designing a symbol for these guys, as well as a poster/album cover. It's official, and it's what I'm currently working on. I've been playing around with a design, and integrating the feedback from the band, their manager, etc. This is the second poster for their weekly show, every Wednesday at the Black Dog Coffee and Wine Bar, on Prince and Broadway in Lowertown Saint Paul, shows starting at 7:00. Great stuff!

Photobucket
I, or rather, Nikki and I found a printer. In a total 180, it's an all-in-one ink-jet, that can fax, copy, scan, and duplex. It's pretty ****ing awesome!

Photobucket
I've been working (slowly) on a comic for Evan Palmer's Future History of Planet Earth. There's plenty of landmines I'm trying to avoid, but I think that the idea and respect I'm already putting into it will trump some complaints it might knee-jerk.

Photobucket
Here's a sketch- that's my name in Arabic on the left.

I've come to the conclusion of swallowing my pride and getting a recession job. No shame, just ride the recession out. I've tried Target (the store- though I'm always trying to find a way into Target corporate), Staples, Dunn Bros., Macy's... etc.

But in the mean time, I still hit the career sites I go to every day, and in the time between the last post, I've picked up some freelance. I'll be illustrating a children's book. I'll post details when I can, but it's pretty swell bit of edu-tainment!
